Whereas the Epoxies might flail under lasers a bit too much and the Gossip bog down in soon gentrified punk-disco, these kids snorkle into the taut and tough power pop ocean of rock’n’roll and execute every hook in the book. This amounts to producing a pithy and purposeful, positively ignited, and jukebox friendly album, like bubblegum music with a ductile steel backbone. If you hijacked crooner Martha from the Motels and forced her back to straight-ahead no curves rock’n’roll, no more moody L.A. night club noodling, just venerable vigor and hectic pacing, then boom, the Checkers  might end up taking form.
